Trip Cancellation and Interruption Insurance
Your trip is an investment.
Protect it if your plans suddenly change.
An unforseen event can alter your travel plans and put strain on your budget.
Travel always comes with excitement — but also with unexpected events.
A medical emergency in your family, missing a connecting flight or having to return earlier than planned can ruin your trip… and your budget.
Trip cancellation and interruption insurance reimburses the prepaid, non-refundable expenses you already paid, protecting you from losing large amounts of money if a serious event occurs before or during your trip.
This insurance is specially designed for:
- Trips paid months in advance, e.g. plane tickets, cruise, AirBnB, rentals, tours, etc.
- Travellers with an elderly parent whose health could suddenly change.
- A trip planned for a large family or group of travellers.
- Professionals that travel all year long.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
TRIP CANCELLATION & INTERRUPTION INSURANCE
What is the difference between cancellation and interruption?
We say cancellation for the coverage before departure and interruption for coverage after departure.
Is this the same coverage my credit card offers?
Not exactly. Many credit cards offer some trip cancellation benefits although they are somehow limited or applicable if, for example, 75% of your trip expenses have been paid with the credit card. A private insurance will offer a more comprehensive coverage better suited to your travel needs.
Does trip cancellation-interruption insurance cover me if I have to cancel for any reason?
As a general rule, the reason to cancel or interrupt your trip must be considered a covered risk by the policy contract. However, there are some insurers that offer the option to add an additional coverage in case of cancellation for any reason.
What information do I need to provide to get a quote?
• Traveller’s full name
• Date of birth
• Travel dates
• First point of destination
• Total amount in CAD, per person, including taxes of all pre-paid and non-refundable travel costs, i.e., airfare, tours, rentals, cruise, etc.
Can I buy it if I already purchased my tickets?
Yes, but it is possible that the insurer applies a 72 hrs waiting period for claims related to a sickness.
It is in your best interest to purchase trip cancellation insurance as soon as you book your trip.
