INTERNATIONAL STUDENT INSURANCE
What are the requirements to apply for international student insurance in Canada?
• Being an enrolled student in a school, college or university in Canada.
• Being in good health.
• Do not have any known reason to consult a doctor or health professional at the time of application.
• Provide all other required information and pay the premium.
Is insurance mandatory for international students in Canada?
Yes. Immigration Canada requires valid medical insurance during your stay as a student.
What does international student travel insurance cover?
Emergency medical expenses, hospitalization, prescription medication, laboratory tests, emergency dental care and additional services depending on the policy selected.
Can I apply if I am already in Canada?
Yes. In many cases, you can purchase the insurance even after you have arrived in Canada.
Am I covered if I travel outside Canada during my studies?
Yes. However, you must spend at 51% of the period of coverage in Canada and insurance will not provide coverage while you visit your country of residence.
How long will I be covered by this insurance?
You can purchase a policy of 3, 6 or maximum 12 months. You can also extend your coverage before the expiry date for a new period of coverage (max. 1 year) considering that your CAQ permit requires you have proof of insurance for all the duration of your studies in Canada.
